OAU SU PRO Enjoins Students To Be On The Alert

Consequent upon demands from Great IFE students for an in-depth explanation of my last update and the reactions that trailed it. I decided to put this up to clear the air on all doubts and propaganda eversince raised through the letters of the update.

The most controversial statement being the last caption which reads "Great IFE BEWARE!!! was a call to maintain our alertness as the University management is trying to witch-hunt student leaders for fighting against the destruction of the destiny of vast majority of Nigerian children who have been left incapacitated by their poor condition.

The update has also been attacked through the statement that the updated development is an indication that the struggle has taken another dimension was to put students on the alert still that the University management has begun to raise tissues out of issues to distract both the Union and the studentry. It is therefore neccessary that we be on the alert and remain focused. The management that suspe…

Life Returns To OAU Campus As Power And Water Supplies Are Restored

Life has finally returned to Obafemi Awolowo University campus after two months of closure by its Management. The Halls of Residence visited by our correspondents today showed the rate of students influx into the campus remains low since the past 48 hours which is very unusual whenever resumption is announced. The reason for this may not be unconnected to the lack of Power and Water supplies in the Halls of Residence before now.

Power was restored early this morning in the Halls at exactly 10:43am while Water supply was restored in Fajuyi Hall specifically some minutes before the Power restoration. However, before now, the academic area of the university community was not part of the black out experienced.

The University Management has earlier announced the 24th of August as the set date for resumption of academic activities.

Falconets Tear Korea DPR Apart To Reach FIFA U-20 World Cup FInal

Asisat Oshoala scored four times as Nigeria reached the final with a thumping 6-2 victory over Korea DPR in the highest-scoring semi-final ever seen at the FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup. Oshoala also laid on two more goals in a win that leaves the Super Falconets to face either France or Germany on Sunday at Montreal's Olympic Stadium, and the North Koreans to play for third place at the same venue.

Nigeria have had a tendency to score quick goals during their time at the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup Canada 2014, and Courtney Dike continued that trend with a goal barely more than a minute after kick-off. Oshoala set the tone by setting it up, releasing Dike in behind Korea DPR’s captain Choe Sol-Gyong before the No8 expertly picked her spot just inside the far post. At the half-way point of the first period, Oshoala doubled Nigeria’s lead, capitalising on a poor touch from centre-half Song Kyong-Hui before rounding the keeper and passing into an open goal.

Less than ten minutes…

Every System Of Government Will Work In Nigeria -Hon. Israel

Fagbemigun Israel is the newly inaugurated Senate President of the National Association of Ondo Students (NAOSS). In this interview with Campusbeats, the 400-Level student of the Department of Microbiology, Obafemi Awolowo University, speaks on national and domestic legislative issues. Excerpts

What is the role of the legislative arm in fostering unity among students?
As popularly known, we are law makers, but our roles go beyond making laws. We are to check the activities and official responsibilities of the executives and are also expected to offer support appropriately where necessary, especially in activities that strengthen our unity. All these responsibilities at the students’ arm of legislature is all in a bid to foster continued unity and development for the entire students’ populace.

Student unionism over time has become a means for some student leaders to access money from politicians. What is your take on this?
I totally disagree with that, but the act is conspicuously obv…

Exactly 9am, students moved enmass from the Anglo-Moz car park, and were singing all along, the students were mostly freshers and also a large number of stalites. Students got to the Senate building and were singing, gyrating, joking and at same time demanding for the total reversal of school fee. After some few hours, Tunde started feeling hungry and was about to leave when he saw that the SU VP was already frying 'pofpof' with the help of some ladies,so Students could eat, he decided to wait,i won't miss this free pofpof o,he said to himself. Another OAU Shut Down Beckons: We May Return Home Soon

Another OAU Shut Down Beckons: We may return home soon Great Ife be warned!
As we prepare for resumption, we must all know that it is not impossible for us to return home quick. You are surprise? Oh! You want to ask why? Basically because of Ebola  Virus Disease amid other reasons.
If care is not taken we will be sent home not by the school management but by the Federal Government because of EVD. We have not resumed fully and students have started creating panic about Ebola on campus. Why? You must realise that any rumour about EVD on OAU campus can easily be believed by any one because of the massive presence of bats, which is believed to be one of the major carriers of EVD.
Most of us may think the federal government is not taking the issue serious but occurrences have shown that EVD is not a child's play. If FG can ask all primary and Secondary Schools not to resume because of EVD, what ll take it to indefinitely shut down OAU. It won't be easy to reopen if closed by FG a…

Students To Face Panel Over Bed Space Racketeering

In what seems to be a clampdown on suspected students involved or trying to be involved in accommodation (bed space) racketeering, they will have to face an Investigative or Disciplinary Panel as the case may be once the school resumes next week over the matter.

The information reaching us has it that these students may have been linked with Bed Space illegality in one way or the other. Those affected include students that have in one time or the other posted on Social Media (Facebook, Twitter and others) requesting for sellable bedspaces or offering one for sale.

One of those affected by this development who pleaded anonymity lamented the clampdown and blamed his inability to secure a bed space as a Returning student in any of the Halls of Residence as the reason for his interest in buying any one available for sale. Another student who was already notified of his suspected involvement who reacted to it said he never had the intention to buy or sell bed space at any point in time. He …

He went to the bathroom to take his bathe and cooked out of the little rice he had left. After eating, he decied to leave the room and take a walk, how i wish Similoluwa was here,i would have been able to talk to her, he thought. While walking he saw guys still arguing and shouting on top of their voices, they were discussing about the increase in the stalites fee. We will fight this oppression to the end, the guys said. Tunde ignored the argument and still walked further, when Similoluwa called his Phone. Hey dear, how are you? Similoluwa asked. I Will Shake Nigeria After 2015 Elections – Oba Akiolu

The Oba of Lagos, Rilwanu Akiolu, on Monday vowed to make startling revelations that will shake the country after the 2015 general election.

Akiolu’s outburst at the public presentation of a book: “Corruption and Human Rights Law in Africa,” authored by Dr. Kolawole Olaniyan was in response to a statement credited to the Ooni of Ife, ‎Oba Okunade Sijuade, that only two out of the country’s renowned monarchs are free of corruption.

Akiolu said he would reveal top secrets that cannot be disputed by those who think their hands are clean, but refused to give further details when approached after the event.

He lambasted the monarch who alleged that he lifted oil and collected contract during the late Gen. Sani Abacha regime, noting that he was a serving policeman in that era.

On the issue of corruption, Akiolu said over 90 percent of Nigerians are corrupt, adding that the way out was for all hands to be on deck.

EPL: Arsenal, Chelsea, LIverpool Win Opener As United Looses

The English Premier League hardly starts a season without a stunner. Manchester United was at the receiving end as they suffered a 2-1 defeat in the hands of the low rated Swansea City in their first week game for the 2014/2015 league season. Rooney's equalizer later in the game was not sufficient to earn the Red Devil a point at least as a second goal from Swansea's Ki Yung-Seung was enough to give the visiting side the deserved win.

Elsewhere, Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester City all opened the season's campaign on a winning note.
Here are the results of the Week One games Saturday, August 16
Man United 1 Final Swansea City 2 West Brom 2 Final Sunderland 2
Stoke City 0 Final Aston Villa 1 Leicester City 2 Final Everton 2
QPR 0 Final Hull City 1 West Ham 0 Final Tottenham 1
Arsenal 2 Final Crystal Palace 1

Timetable for ICT Training For Fresh Undergraduate Students

The pivotal role of the university in producing the levels of human capital required for countries to succeed in the globalised ‘information economy’ has been expressed in terms of higher education’s ability to provide the labour market with information-aware and information-adept graduates. Developments in multimedia, increased communications and other ICT innovations are obviously key components of the information economy. Thus, it is imperative for the Obafemi Awolowo University that prides itself as the leading ICT University in Nigeria to empower her students.

The ICT training for fresh undergraduate students aims to impart basic ICT skill into the students right from the onset of their educational career in OAU. New ICT initiatives are being introduced to the University. These include: student e-mail services, smart classrooms, multimedia driven lecture delivery, intra-university voice communication ‘Keedu’, increasing online engagement, course registration, TCC project, e-ass…

According to OAU Public Relations Officer, Mr. Biodun Olarewaju, the university has been for fourth consecutive times ranked first in Nigeria.

Olarewaju said, “According to the latest ranking released in July, 2014 on its website: http//, OAU has been adjudged to have continuously recorded excellence in its area of research, academic, university governance and extensive deployment of ICT for its operations.
