Great Ife students are known for their "intolerance of any form of oppression". You might be like, what has "oppression" got to do with stealing? To OAU students "a robber" is an oppressor, this is why they have had this cloth thief paraded on campus today.

OAU Students Appeal To Aregbesola, Osun CP Over Colleagues Suspension

Students of Obafemi Awolowo University have appealed to the school management, Osun State Governor, Rauf Aregbesola and the state Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Maishanu, over the reinstatement of their suspended colleagues.

The authorities of OAU had suspended eight students of the school over allegation of misconduct, claiming that the students would be reinstated after the completion of a police investigation.

Students Union leaders in the school were also placed on rustication on probation allegedly for their roles during the protests against fee hike.

The suspended students are Pele Obasa, Ibirogba Samuel, Ademuwagun Johnson, Sanyaolu Oluwajuwon, Oluwole Olubanji, Benjamin Olusiji, Adabale Olamide, Abiodun Abimbola.
However, during a press conference, President of the SU, Ibikunle Isaac wondered why the school management suspended the students without any investigative report.

He explained that the police seems not to be helping matters, lamenting that they were harassed when t…

ACJ Moves To Mediate Between Polar OAU Union Leadership

It is no longer rumour or a breaking news that the Obafemi Awolowo University Students' Union President, Comrade Ibikunle Isaac and the Vice President, Comrade Oladejo Funmi a.k.a Olori are not in good terms, thus the Union is experiencing its most unpalatable moment in recent years.

This can be corroborated with recent Press Statements issued from the offices of the two leading Union officers as they trade blames and point accusing fingers at themselves. They continue to give Great Ife students reasons to believe and conclude that there is more than meets the eye. Olori in her last Release which she titled OLORI: THE UNITY I WANT, IS THAT OF PURPOSE, tried to justify the 'Congress' she called on October 2 which has since been a subject of controversy amidst the student populace and which Ibikunle himself during the last Press Conference critically and constitutionally condemned. Now, who is telling the truth? Who should innocent Great Ife students believe? What are the …

The Hydra-headed Nature Of Political Parties And Their Effects On Democracy

Democracy simply put is defined as "government of the people, for the people and by the people’’ and since the beginning of the recorded history of man, man has experimented with numerous types of government such as monarchy, theocracy, oligarchy and autocracy but of all, democracy is adjudged the best because it gives political power to citizens of the state instead of giving such to a particular person or few families. Although power belongs to the masses in a democratic state, not every individual will have the opportunity of participating actively in the affairs of the state or be able to hold political position. What people therefore do is that they elect representatives on the platform of the political parties as the party system is a surer way of electing representatives. A political egghead while trying to reiterate the relevance of viable political parties to democracy said that ‘’in ideal democracies, political parties are not perceived as mere platform for contesting …

'I Would Defend What Is Rational Even If I Am Standing Alone' -Olori

‘Those who cannot defend the past conquest cannot fight for new ones’
-Leon Trostky.

Greatest Ife, I salute your doggedness and resilience in the face of anti-students conditions manifesting on campus. How else can we describe the state of electricity supply, poor grading system, and burden meted on students, if not anti- students situations. Quite unfortunate is it, that the weeds of these conditions, though planted by the management, are watered by the leadership of our dear union, through misplacement of priority, and disdainful disregard for the guiding norms of our union.
Against this background, especially because of the organized defamation of my character and the conscious misinterpretation of my intentions, I write Great Ife students to put the record straight.

The news making round: ‘that out of ambition, I usurped the power of the president by mobilizing for a congress’ over erratic power supply some weeks ago, that I am being us…

The Effect Of Admission Racketeering On The Nigerian Economy

Racketeering is defined as a process whereby a person or persons demand money through unscrupulous and illegal means to perform an action. In the same vein, Admission Racketeering can be defined as an illegal process that comes up when admission seekers pay a certain set of people money to gain admission into tertiary institutions. Simply put, Admission Racketeering is a money-for-admission process, an obvious perversion of the 'admissioneering' process.
Hence, it is no longer news that this process in now the evident order of the day in our tertiary institutions. In fact, the government, parents, lecturers, school administrators and students are all major players in this ignoble act. This process has not only blemished our education system but, it has also affected the Nigerian economy at large. Permit me to do a postmortem on this vice and the pertinent of the reasons in which it affects the economy will be highlighted below. For the purpose of precision and specification, …
