FG Appoints New OAU Governing Council

President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the appointment of Dr Yemi Ogunbiyi as the chairman of the governing council of Obafemi Awolowo University.

The councils of the two universities were sacked recently following some crises in the two schools. Education minister, Malam Adamu Adamu announced the appointments in a statement on Friday. He said  the new governing councils would serve for a term of four years, in the first instance, with effect from December 28, 2016.

Other members of the OAU council area Prof Felix U. Madubuike, Mr. Inowei Akono, Mr. Adekunle Sanni and Muhammad Bello Kaoje.
Yemi Ogunbiyi founding chairman of Tanus Communications, once served as the Managing Director of Daily Times of Nigeria. He received his secondary education from the Ibadan Boys High School and later went to University of Ibadan where he studied English Literature. He then went to New York University for his Masters degree.

Departmental Presidents, Faculty Leaders, Class Representatives Gather At iLead Summit

It was a gathering of dignitaries on Saturday, 7th January 2017 at the Conference room of the Hotel De Treasure, Ile-Ife as Class Representatives, Executives of Departmental Associations, Executives of Student Associations and Unions and other Leadership enthusiasts gathered for the Campus Young Leaders Summit and Breakfast (1).


The programme, which was powered by Lifeport, began some minutes past 9:00 am with breakfast and started officially at about 9:30 am. The Keynote speaker of the event, Professor Sola Akinnrinade; Pioneer Vice-Chancellor of the Osun State University and current provost of the Anti-corruption Academy of Nigeria, ICPC, Abuja, in his address enlightened the audience on the fundamentals of Leadership, challenging the leaders present to work towards being the ideal leader.

OAU: Acting Vice-Chancellor Visits Central Mosque, Reaffirms Commitment To Service

Despite several unprecedented visits to various places on campus, it was still a great shocker to many when the Acting Vice-Chancellor of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Professor Anthony Elujoba, stepped into the University’s Central Mosque on Friday, the 6th of January just few minutes before the commencement of the Jumat prayer.

In his short speech after the Jumat prayer, which started with song of thanks to Allah, he reiterated his commitment in serving the university community with absolute sincerity and transparency which he said he would not relent in doing with the remaining 18 days left for him in office.

OAU Admission Exercise For 2016/2017 Session Closed

Following several inquiries, the Obafemi Awolowo University has ended her admission exercise for the 2016/2017 Academic session. This was revealed in an interaction with the office of the Registrar of the University and was further confirmed by the Admissions Office of the institution.

Commenting of the admission process, a representative of the Registrar’s office disclosed that all admission lists for the 2016/2017 Academic session had been released and any candidate whose name had not appeared on the JAMB admission portal was advised to register for the next UTME examination in due course.

Inoperation Of Butteries In Halls Causes Various Reaction From Students

Students of the Obafemi Awolowo University, who have started to resume back to school following the end of the yuletide holidays, are currently lamenting the closure of majority of the butteries in the Halls of Residence. 




Many have associated the closure of these butteries with a circular released last semester by the Security Unit banning the operation of butteries in the Halls of Residence. However, upon several visits to the various Halls of Residence, some of our correspondents were able to gather that the closure might not be not be as directly related with the Circular. For instance, in some Halls where the butteries are totally closed down, porters have claimed that it is only a temporary arrangement as they would be reopened in due course. However, in the Mozambique Hall of Residence, only one of the two butteries in the hall were operational and some workers in the hall claimed that the buttery attendants were only required to obtain a form to continue their operations and we…

The Tony Elumelu Foundation (TEF), is now accepting applications for the 2017 Tony Elumelu Entrepreneurship Programme (TEEP) ($100m Pan-African entrepreneurship initiative ) for for Young African Entrepreneurs with business ideas that can transform Africa.

This intercontinental forum will provide a platform to discuss different means of preventing/countering violent extremism by drawing on the soft power of religion and dialogue and, accordingly making policies at the local, national and regional levels that are relevant to both Africa and Europe. The forum will bring together a group of experts and practitioners on interfaith dialogue, countering violent extremism, and de-radicalization along with a representative group of youth from Africa and Europe.

In the light of characteristic events of the festive season and in preparation towards the resumption of the 2015/2016 Rain semester, some high level security tips have been issued by the management of the Obafemi Awolowo University to the people of the institution community.

• Keep a low profile, blend in and be alert to developments in your environment.
• Avoid known crime-prone areas and black spots.
